Have you ever heard of a mischievous boy named William Brown? He's the star of the classic British TV show William, which was based on the popular "Just William" books by Richmal Crompton. This show aired on the BBC from 1962 to 1963.

There were 12 episodes in total, each about 30 minutes long. All the episodes were filmed in black and white.

About the Show

The William TV series brought the funny adventures of William Brown to life on screen. William is a cheeky schoolboy who often gets into trouble. He hangs out with his friends, who call themselves the 'Outlaws'. Together, they have many exciting and sometimes messy adventures!

What Happened to the Episodes?

For many years, people thought that almost all the episodes of William were lost forever. This happened because the BBC used to "wipe" old tapes. Wiping meant they would record over them to save money.

However, in 2016, something exciting happened! The British Film Institute announced they had found one missing episode. This episode was called "William And The Leopard Hunter." It was the second episode from the first series. Sadly, the other eleven episodes of this funny show are still missing.

Meet the Actors

Several actors played the main characters in William. Here are some of them:

  • Dennis Waterman played William Brown in the first series.
  • Dennis Gilmore took over the role of William Brown in the second series.
  • Christopher Witty played Ginger, one of William's best friends.
