William Borlase (born October 15, 1620 – died October 1665) was an English politician. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a part of the government, between 1659 and 1665.
Early Life and Education
William Borlase was born in 1620. He was the younger son of Sir William Borlase. His father was also a politician, serving as a Member of Parliament for Wycombe. William's mother was Amy Popham.
When he was 14 years old, William started studying at Magdalen Hall, Oxford in 1635. After that, in 1637, he began studying law at a place called Inner Temple in London.
Political Career
In 1659, William Borlase was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is someone elected to represent people in the government. He represented the area of Great Marlow. This was during a time known as the Third Protectorate Parliament.
He was elected again for Great Marlow in 1660 for the Convention Parliament. He was elected one more time in 1661 for the Cavalier Parliament. He continued to serve as an MP until he passed away in 1665. He was 45 years old when he died.
Family Life
William Borlase married Joanna Bankes. Her father was Sir John Bankes, a very important judge. William and Joanna had one son and four daughters.
Their son, John, also became a Member of Parliament for Marlow later on. One of William's daughters, Alicia, married John Wallop. Their family included John Wallop, 1st Earl of Portsmouth, who became a very important person.
