Sir William Duff-Gordon, 2nd Baronet (born April 8, 1772 – died March 8, 1823) was an important Scottish politician. Before 1815, people knew him as William Gordon. He came from a well-known family and served in the British Parliament.

Early Life and Family

William Gordon was born in 1772. His father was the Honourable Alexander Gordon, Lord Rockville. Lord Rockville was the son of William Gordon, 2nd Earl of Aberdeen. William's mother was Anne Duff. This shows he came from a family with strong connections.

Political Career

In 1807, William Gordon became a Member of Parliament (MP). He represented the area of Worcester. An MP is someone elected to speak for their local area in the country's government. He held this job for many years. He continued to be an MP until 1818.

Becoming Sir William Duff-Gordon

A big change happened for William in 1815. His uncle, Sir James Duff, 1st Baronet, passed away. William then became the 2nd Baronet of Halkin. A baronet is a special title, like a knight, but it can be passed down in the family. He received this title because of a special rule called a "special remainder." In the same year, he officially added "Duff" to his last name. This was allowed by a "Royal licence," which is a special permission from the King or Queen. After this, he was known as Sir William Duff-Gordon.

Family Life and Legacy

Sir William Duff-Gordon married Caroline Cornewall. She was the youngest daughter of Sir George Cornewall. They got married on February 5, 1810. Sir William passed away in March 1823. He was 50 years old when he died. His son, Alexander, then took over the baronetcy.
