William Francis Howe Jr. (1888 – November 10, 1952) was an American soldier and businessman. He was a brave leader in both World War I and World War II. He also worked as a stockbroker, which means he helped people buy and sell parts of companies. In the army, he reached the rank of brigadier general, a very high leadership position.

Early Life and Education

William F. Howe Jr. was born in 1888. He went to Yale University, a famous school in the United States. While he was there, he was known for being a great athlete.

Military Service and Leadership

Howe Jr. served his country in two major wars.

World War I Hero

From 1917 to 1919, during World War I, William F. Howe Jr. was a commanding officer. He led the 102nd Field Artillery Regiment on the Western Front. This was a very important area where many battles took place in Europe.

World War II Contributions

Later, during World War II, Howe Jr. continued his military service. From 1941 to 1942, he was the commanding officer of the 51st Field Artillery Brigade. After that, he led the Army Training Schools at Yale University from 1942 to 1943. These schools helped train new soldiers for the war.

Teaching at Yale

After his time leading the Army Training Schools, William F. Howe Jr. became a professor at Yale University starting in 1943. He shared his knowledge and experience with new students.

His Family of Champions

William F. Howe Jr. came from a family of talented athletes.

His wife was Margaret Allen Howe, who was a champion in the sport of squash. Their children also became very good at sports. Their daughters, Betty Constable and Peggy White, were also squash champions, just like their mother. Their son, William F. "Bill" Howe, was a successful sporting goods retailer. He was also a Yale baseball All-American in 1947, which means he was one of the best college baseball players in the country that year.
