William Henry Hyett (born September 2, 1795 – died March 10, 1877) was an important British politician. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the area of Stroud. He was part of the Whig political group and was first elected to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom on December 13, 1832.

Early Life and Name Change

William Henry Hyett was born with a different name: William Henry Adams. His parents were Reverend Henry Cay Adams and Frances Marston. In 1813, his life changed when he inherited land and money from Benjamin Hyett. Because of this inheritance, he decided to change his last name to Hyett.

He lived in a grand home called Painswick House, which is located in Gloucestershire, England.

Contributions and Achievements

William Henry Hyett was not just a politician; he also helped start important institutions. On February 29, 1844, he was recognized for his contributions and became a Fellow of the Royal Society. This is a very respected group for scientists and thinkers.

One of his most notable achievements was his role in creating Gloucester's first mental asylum. This was a special hospital for people with mental health conditions. It was first located on Horton Road in Gloucester. Later, the private part of this hospital moved to Barnwood. This led to the establishment of Barnwood House Hospital in 1860. William Henry Hyett was the very first chairman of this new hospital, serving from 1858 to 1862.
