William Beauchamp Lygon, 2nd Earl Beauchamp (1783 – 12 May 1823) was an important British politician. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Society, which means he was recognized for his contributions to science. He held different titles during his life, including The Honourable William Lygon and Viscount Elmley, before becoming the 2nd Earl Beauchamp.

Early Life and Education

William Beauchamp Lygon was born in 1783. His father was William Lygon, 1st Earl Beauchamp, and his mother was Catherine Denn. William went to Christ Church, Oxford, which is a famous university in England. This education helped prepare him for a life in politics.

A Career in Parliament

William Beauchamp Lygon became a Member of Parliament (MP) in 1806. He represented the area of Worcestershire in the British Parliament. He took over this role from his father. He served as an MP until 1816.

In 1816, William inherited the title of Earl Beauchamp from his father. This meant he moved from the House of Commons to the House of Lords. The House of Lords is another important part of the British Parliament, where members usually inherit their positions or are appointed.

William was also recognized for his interest in knowledge and science. On December 6, 1810, he was chosen as a Fellow of the Royal Society. This is a very old and respected group that promotes science.

Later Life and Passing

Lord Beauchamp passed away in May 1823. He died at Madresfield Court, which is a large estate near Malvern, Worcestershire. William did not have any children, so his younger brother, John, became the next Earl Beauchamp.
