William Morton Pitt (born May 16, 1754, died February 28, 1836) was an important British politician. He was a Member of Parliament, which means he helped make laws for the country. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Society, a group of very smart scientists.

Early Life and Education

William Morton Pitt was born in 1754. He was the oldest son of John Pitt. His family lived at Encombe House in Dorset, England.

He went to Queen's College, Oxford for his education. Later, in 1774, he started studying law at a famous place called Lincoln's Inn.

A Career in Parliament

In 1780, William Morton Pitt became a Member of Parliament (MP). He represented the town of Poole in Parliament. He served Poole for ten years, until 1790.

After that, he became the MP for Dorset. He represented Dorset for a very long time, from 1790 all the way until 1826. This means he helped make decisions for the country for over 40 years!

In 1787, he was chosen to be a Fellow of the Royal Society. This is a special honor given to people who have done great things in science.

Family Life

William Morton Pitt passed away in 1836. He was married two times.

His first wife was Margaret. She was the daughter of John Gambier, who was the Governor of the Bahamas. William and Margaret had one daughter together.

Later, he married Grace Amelia. She was the daughter of Henry Seymour. William and Grace had two sons and one daughter.
