William Norreys (born 1552, died December 25, 1579) was an English soldier. He also worked at the royal court during the time of the Tudor kings and queens. He was a Member of Parliament and served in Ireland.

Early Life and Family

William Norreys was born in 1552. His parents were Henry Norreys, 1st Baron Norreys and Lady Margery Williams. Lady Margery was the daughter of John Williams, 1st Baron Williams of Thame. Sadly, William died before his parents and four of his brothers.

William Norreys married Elizabeth Morrison in 1576. She was the older daughter of Sir Richard Morrison. William and Elizabeth had one son together. Their son was named Francis Norris. He later became the first Earl of Berkshire. After William died, his wife Elizabeth married again in 1586. She married Henry Clinton, 2nd Earl of Lincoln.

Public Service and Military Career

In 1572, William Norreys was chosen to be a Member of Parliament. This meant he represented the area of Berkshire in the English government. This was during the rule of Queen Elizabeth I. He also served as the Marshal of Berwick. This was an important military role at Berwick Castle, a key border fortress.

William Norreys was a soldier who served in Ireland. He was a Captain of Horse, leading a group of cavalry soldiers. He first campaigned in Ireland from 1573 to 1576. He returned to fight there again in 1579. Sadly, he died in Ireland that same year from a fever. His older brother, Sir John Norreys, was also a very famous English soldier.
