William Scarborough (born March 14, 1945) is a politician from the United States. He is a member of the Democratic Party. He represented District 29 in the New York State Assembly. This district covers a large part of Queens County in New York, including the area of Jamaica. During his time in the Assembly, he led the Committee on Children and Families. He also served on several other important committees.

Early Life and Education
William Scarborough grew up in Jamaica, Queens. He also lived in other Queens neighborhoods like St. Albans and Rosedale. He went to Public School 140 and Shimer J.H.S. 142. He then graduated from Andrew Jackson High School.
College Studies
After high school, he continued his education. In 1970, he earned an associate's degree from Queensborough Community College. Later, in 1975, he received a B.A. degree. He studied psychology and political science at Queens College (City University of New York).
Starting a Career in Public Service
Before becoming a state assembly member, William Scarborough worked in different roles. From 1979 to 1983, he was an account executive. He worked for the New York Telephone Company.
Community Involvement
His journey into public service began with community work. From 1977 to 1983, he was a member of Community Board 28. Community boards help local residents with issues in their neighborhoods. He also served as the District Manager of Community Board 12. He held this position from 1984 to 1994. During the same period, from 1983 to 1994, he was the Chairman of Area Policy Board 12. These roles helped him understand the needs of his community.

William Scarborough was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 1994. He served the 29th District for many years. He was re-elected several times, including running without opposition in 2008 and 2010.
Key Roles and Advocacy
During his time in the Assembly, he took on important leadership roles. He was the Chair of the Small Business Committee. In this role, he worked to support small businesses. He was also a strong voice for his district. He often spoke out about the need to fix flooding problems in Southeast Queens. These floods were mainly caused by changes in the water system.
After the Assembly
William Scarborough left his position in the New York State Assembly in May 2015. Since then, he has continued to work in public service. He found employment with the Fortune Society. This organization helps people who have recently been released from difficult situations. He helps them connect with important social services.
