William Stourton, 12th Baron Stourton (who passed away in 1685) was an important figure in English history. He inherited his title from his grandfather, William Stourton. William was the son of Edward Stourton (1617-1644) and Mary Petre (c. 1624–1672). His mother, Mary, was the daughter of the 3rd Baron Petre.

A "Baron" is a noble title, usually passed down through families. It means they were part of the important land-owning families in England and had a special place in society.

Family Life of William Stourton

William Stourton married Elizabeth Preston in 1665. Elizabeth was the daughter of Sir John Preston. She passed away in April 1688.

William and Elizabeth had at least four sons. These sons continued the Stourton family line and some of them later became Barons themselves:

• Edward (1665–1720): He became the 13th Baron Stourton in 1685, after his father passed away.
• Thomas (1667–1743): He became the 14th Baron in 1720.
• Captain Charles Stourton (1669-1739): He was a captain and had two sons who later became Barons:
  • Charles Stourton: He became the 15th Baron in 1743.
  • William Stourton: He became the 16th Baron in 1754.
• John Stourton (1673-1748)
