On October 11, 1749, William Stourton married Winifred Howard. She was born in 1726. This marriage was very important for the Stourton family. Winifred was the eldest daughter of Philip Howard. She was also a "co-heiress" to her uncles, the 8th and 9th Dukes of Norfolk. This means she shared the right to inherit some very old family titles.

Inheriting Ancient Titles

Through Winifred, the Stourton family could eventually claim many old titles. These included Baron Mowbray, Baron Segrave, Baron Howard, and Baron Greystoke. These titles were created a long time ago. They could be passed down through female family members, which was special.

Their Children

William and Winifred had three children together:

  • Charles Philip Stourton, 17th Baron Stourton, who was their only son and heir.
  • Catharine Stourton (born 1750). She became a novice, meaning she was studying at a religious school in Liege.
  • Charlotte-Mary Stourton (born 1751). She also became a novice at the same religious school.

Sadly, Winifred passed away in 1753. William Stourton died on October 3, 1781. He was buried in Witham, Essex.
