William T. Andrews was born in 1898 in Sumter, South Carolina. He grew up to become a lawyer. In 1926, he married Regina M. Anderson.
Andrews was a special legal assistant for the NAACP. The NAACP is a very old and important group that works for equal rights for all people. In the 1930s, Andrews helped investigate problems in a town called Hillburn, New York. He looked into claims of "Jim Crow" discrimination. This was a time when laws and customs treated people unfairly based on their race.
Political Career
William T. Andrews was also a member of the New York State Assembly. This is a group of lawmakers who help create laws for the state of New York. He served in the Assembly for many years:
