About William Westenra

Early Life and Education

William Warner Westenra was born at his family's home, Rossmore Castle. He went to Scaitcliffe prep school and then to Eton College, which are both famous schools. After that, he studied Theology at Cambridge University.

In 1958, William inherited his father's title, becoming the 7th Baron Rossmore. By this time, the old family castle, Rossmore Castle, was no longer used because of a problem called dry rot. His family then lived in another house on their estate. This house was later destroyed by a fire in 1981.

Family and Career

Later in his life, William met Valerie Marion Tobin, and they got married in 1982. Their son, Benedict William, was born in 1983. When William married Valerie, he also adopted her daughter, Charlotte, who then took the Westenra family name.

William continued to work as a photographer and painter for many years. He even returned to Glin Castle, a place he knew well, to take pictures for a special book.

His marriage to Valerie ended before he passed away in 2021. His son, Benedict, then became the 8th Baron Rossmore.
