Fighting in Wales
In 1277, William played a big part in King Edward's invasion of Wales. He helped lead the English forces. Later, in 1294, he bravely rescued the King. Edward I had been trapped inside Conwy Castle during a siege. William crossed the water to reach the castle and break the siege.
Battle of Maes Moydog
William de Beauchamp won a major victory on March 5, 1295. This was at the battle of Maes Moydog against Madog ap Llywelyn, a rebel Welsh prince. William's army attacked the Welsh infantry at night. He used his cavalry (soldiers on horseback) to push the Welsh into tight groups. Then, his archers (soldiers with bows and arrows) shot at them, and his cavalry charged again. This clever plan helped him win the battle.

Towards the end of his life, William de Beauchamp also fought in military campaigns against the Scots. He continued to serve as a key military figure for England.
