Early Roles in Local Government

- Since 1995, he has been the Mayor of Somme-Leuze. The Mayor is the main leader of a town.
- From 1994 to 2004, he was a Provincial Councillor for Namur. A Provincial Councillor works for a larger area, like a county.
- From 1995 to 2000, he was the President of the Provincial Council of Namur. This means he led the council for that area.
- From 2000 to 2004, he was the group leader in the Provincial Council of Namur. He led his political party's members on the council.
