Wilmington Beach was once a small coastal area in North Carolina, USA. It was located on Pleasure Island. In the year 2000, the nearby town of Carolina Beach officially took over Wilmington Beach. This process is called annexation.
Before it became part of Carolina Beach, Wilmington Beach was like a middle ground between Carolina Beach and another town called Kure Beach. The main roads that went through Wilmington Beach were U.S. Highway 421 and Ocean Boulevard. The area got its name from the city of Wilmington, which is about ten miles north. Today, the area that used to be Wilmington Beach is mostly made up of homes.
History of Wilmington Beach
The Wilmington Beach area was somewhat separate from the other two beach towns. This was because most of its smaller streets ended before they reached Kure Beach to the south or the old town limits of Carolina Beach to the north. Because of this, the northern edge of Wilmington Beach was at Carolina Sands Drive, and its southern edge was at Alabama Avenue.
Many of the streets in Wilmington Beach were not paved. After Carolina Beach took over the area, they worked to pave these streets. They also added modern sewer lines, which helped improve the area for the people living there.
