The company started in 1992. It was founded by Sergei Plastinin and Mikhail Dubinin. They began their business with a small loan of US$50,000. They also leased a juice bottling line at a dairy plant.

The first juices they made were called "Wimm Bill Dann." This name sounded similar to "Wimbledon," which is a famous tennis tournament. The company was one of the first in Russia to make fruit juice under the "J7" brand.

Helping Dairy Farms

In 1999, Wimm Bill Dann spent US$7 million to help dairy farms. They wanted to make sure there was enough milk for their products. They helped farms get modern equipment for milking cows and keeping milk cold.

Going Public and New Products

In 2002, Wimm Bill Dann became a public company. This meant its shares could be bought and sold on the New York Stock Exchange.

In 2003, the company bought a factory that made mineral water. They produced "Essentuki-17" and "Essentuki-4" mineral water brands. However, they sold this factory in 2018.

After PepsiCo bought most of the company, Wimm Bill Dann stopped selling its shares on the New York Stock Exchange in 2011. PepsiCo completed buying 100% of the company by December 2011. This purchase was the second-largest in PepsiCo's history.

After the purchase, PepsiCo looked closely at how Wimm Bill Dann was run. They found some areas where things could be improved in how the company followed rules. PepsiCo worked to make sure everything was done correctly.
