Windhorst, also known as Windthorst, is a small place in Ford County, Kansas, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. You can find Windhorst in a countryside area. It's located along 131 Spur Road, between Iron Road and Jewell Road. This quiet spot is about 6 miles south of Bellefont and 15 miles north of Bucklin.

A Look Back at Windhorst

Windhorst once had its own post office. It opened in 1898. However, it only stayed open for a few years. The post office closed down in 1905.

Today, Windhorst is a small community. It has a church, a school building, a house for a priest, and some homes. The most famous building here is the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. This beautiful church closed in 1997. It is special because it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's an important historical site. You can still visit it today.

Schools and Sports

Students in Windhorst are part of the USD 381 Spearville Schools. This means they go to schools in nearby Spearville. The high school in Spearville is called Spearville High School. Their sports teams are known as the Royal Lancers.

Windhorst used to have its own schools. They closed when different school districts joined together. This process is called school unification. The high school in Windhorst had a mascot too. They were called the Windhorst Bluejays. The Windhorst Bluejays were very good at baseball. In 1956, they won the state championship. This was for the class B Baseball championship from the Kansas State High School.
