Winedale wasn't always called Winedale! Its first name was Truebsal. This community started out in a different county, Washington County.
How Winedale Got Its Name
In 1879, the community got a post office. When the post office opened, it was given the name Winedale. This was a new name for the area.
Moving to a New County
Just two years later, in 1881, the post office in Winedale closed down. Sometime after that, the community itself actually moved! It shifted north from Washington County into its current location in Fayette County.
