Winifred Hervey went to Loyola Marymount University. In the 1970s, she started her career writing for TV shows. She worked for The Garry Marshall Company. There, she wrote for popular sitcoms like Mork & Mindy and The New Odd Couple.
In the 1980s, she continued to write for television. She wrote episodes for shows such as Benson and The Cosby Show. She also wrote for The Golden Girls. On The Golden Girls, she was also a co-producer. In 1987, she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series for her work on this show. An Emmy Award is a very important award for TV shows.
Producing and Writing Hit Shows
In the 1990s, Winifred Hervey became an executive producer. This means she was in charge of many parts of making a TV show. She wrote for and produced The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She also worked on In the House.
In 1996, she created her own show, The Steve Harvey Show. She was the executive producer and head writer for this series. The Steve Harvey Show won three NAACP Image Awards. These awards were for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2001, 2002, and 2003. The NAACP Image Awards celebrate achievements by people of color in entertainment.
