The Winnifred Street Bridge is a special bridge in Ruston, Washington. It is also known as WSDOT Bridge No. 1130. This bridge was built in 1941. It is made of concrete and uses a design called a "box girder."

A box girder bridge gets its name because its main support beams look like hollow boxes. This design makes the bridge very strong. The Winnifred Street Bridge is 215 feet (about 65 meters) long. It stands 74 feet (about 22 meters) above railroad tracks in a deep valley.

History of the Winnifred Street Bridge

The Winnifred Street Bridge was built in 1941. S. R. Gray was the person who built it. For many years, the bridge helped people travel safely over the ravine.

Repairs and Reopening

In the early 2000s, engineers checked the bridge. They found that some parts of its main support walls were weak. Because of this, the bridge had to close for repairs.

During the repairs, the old guardrails were replaced. These are the barriers that keep cars from driving off the side. The top surface of the bridge, called the deck, was also replaced. After these important fixes, the bridge was safe again. It reopened to traffic in June 2003.

A Historic Landmark

The Winnifred Street Bridge is important for its history and design. In 1995, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a special list in the United States. Being on this list means a place is important to the history of the country. It helps protect these places for future generations.
