Winona Littleheart's Wrestling Journey
Winfred Childree started her wrestling career on January 1, 1976. Her stepfather, Dick Barkley, was also a wrestler. She began using the name "Winona Littleheart." Her character often included a fringe vest and a feather. In 1976, she was named the Girl's Wrestling Rookie of the Year.
Starting Out in the NWA
For several years, Winona wrestled in many different areas of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). She traveled to places like Tampa, New York, Hawaii, and Atlanta. In October 1980, she won the NWA United States Women's Championship. She was known as "Princess Little Heart" at this time. Later, she lost the title to Judy Martin.
After 1985, Childree returned to the NWA. She used a new wrestling name, "Cindy Lou." Her character was said to be friends with wrestlers Barry Windham and Kendall Windham. Later, her character was taken over by Kevin Sullivan. He gave her the new name "The Lock." This was because he supposedly kept her "under lock and key."
As The Lock, she had a unique look. She often wore a mohawk and strange clothing with face paint. She joined Sullivan's wrestling group, called the "Army of Darkness." She often had wrestling matches with Sullivan's other valet, Fallen Angel. Later, Luna Vachon joined the group. She and The Lock formed a tag team called "The Daughters of Darkness."
Competing in the WWF
As Winona Littleheart, she also wrestled often in the World Wide/World Wrestling Federation (WWF). This was during the late 1970s and early 1980s. She often competed against The Fabulous Moolah and Judy Martin. Winona also worked as a trainer at Moolah's wrestling school. She helped train other wrestlers, including Wendi Richter.
In 1985, the WWF became separate from the NWA. Winona Littleheart then challenged Leilani Kai for the WWF Women's Championship.
Independent Wrestling Matches
As the Florida wrestling scene changed, Luna Vachon and The Lock began wrestling on the independent circuit. This means they wrestled for smaller wrestling companies. They won the World Tag Team title for Women's Championship Wrestling. This company was based in Las Vegas. They defended their titles against Candi Devine and Debbie Combs in 1987. Later that year, she wrestled for AWA Georgia.
In 1988, The Lock also wrestled for David McLane's Powerful Women of Wrestling. She was managed by Genie Beret.
After Wrestling
Winfred Barkley stopped wrestling in 1988. She also provided backup vocals for a song. This song was on the 1987 album "Indulgence" by the band Nasty Savage.
She passed away on May 9, 2020, at the age of 64.
