Winston Abraham, born on September 29, 1974, is a former Australian rules footballer. He was known for playing as a half-forward during his time in the Australian Football League (AFL).

Winston Abraham's Early Football Journey

Winston started playing football in Western Australia. He played for local teams like Thornlie and Kelmscott. These teams were part of the Sunday Football League. Later, he joined the Perth Football Club in the WAFL. He played only a few games there before being chosen to play in the AFL.

Playing in the AFL

Fremantle Dockers Debut

Winston Abraham was part of the very first team for the Fremantle Dockers. He played in their first-ever game in Round 1 of 1995. This exciting match was against the Richmond Tigers at the famous MCG. Winston was known for his amazing speed on the field. He could also kick incredible goals that seemed to come out of nowhere!

Moving to the Kangaroos

In 1998, Winston moved to play for the Kangaroos. In his first year with the Kangaroos, he won the prestigious Mark of the Year award. This award is given for the best mark (catch) of the football during a game. A year later, in 1999, he was part of the Kangaroos team that won the AFL Premiership. This is the biggest championship in Australian rules football.

Career-Ending Injury

In the first game of the 2001 AFL season, Winston suffered a serious injury. He accidentally ran into another player, James Hird, and fell awkwardly. This caused damage to his left knee. Even though he walked off the field, the injury was severe. After surgery, it became clear that his knee would not recover enough for him to keep playing. Because of this, he was delisted (removed from the team's list of players) at the end of that season. This injury sadly brought his playing career to an end.

Coaching Career

After his playing days, Winston Abraham continued to be involved in football. In 2006, he became an assistant coach at the Perth Football Club. This was the same club where he had played early in his career. In 2008, he took on a coaching role for the Kelmscott team. This team was part of the Western Australian Sunday Football League.
