A Look Back: Wofford's History
Wofford has an interesting past, especially when it comes to its name.
How Wofford Got Its Name
Originally, this community was called Mahan. It was named after a local family who lived there. But things changed when a post office was opened in the area.
On April 27, 1900, a small branch of the Williamsburg Post Office was set up in the community. Because of this new post office, the name of the community was changed to Wofford. This often happened in the past, where communities would be named after their post offices.
Later on, this local post office branch was closed. Its services were then moved back and combined with the main Williamsburg Post Office.
