The Woodbury Town Hall is an important building in Woodbury, Vermont. It's where the local government meets to make decisions for the town. This historic building was built way back in 1842! It's a great example of a style called Greek Revival, which was popular a long time ago. In 1995, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places, which means it's a special building worth protecting.

What is the Woodbury Town Hall Like?

The Woodbury Town Hall is part of a group of buildings in the center of Woodbury village. You can find it south of where Vermont Route 14 meets Valley Lake Road. It sits about 50 feet (15 meters) back from Route 14.

This building is located between the fire station and the village store. All these buildings share a parking area. A small green space separates them from the main road.

Building Design and Features

The town hall is a one-story building made of wood. It has a pointed roof at the front and its outside walls are covered with overlapping wooden boards. The front of the building looks the same on both sides, with two main entrances.

The corners of the building and the doorways have wide decorative borders. Above the front, the triangular part of the roof is fully decorated. It even has a cool triangular fan shape in the middle.

Inside, there's one big room. At the far end, you'll find a stage. There's also a small kitchen in a section added to the back of the building.

A Look at the Town Hall's History

The town of Woodbury was first settled in 1781. The very first official town meeting happened in 1806. Back then, these meetings were held in a local school building near the town center.

Why a New Town Hall Was Needed

As more people moved to Woodbury, the town grew bigger. The school building became too small for all the town meetings. So, in 1842, the town hall was built to give everyone a larger place to meet.

People who live in Woodbury believe something special about the land the town hall is on. They think the town can only keep the land as long as the building is used for town meetings. This shows how important the town hall is to the community!
