Woodhaven Lakes facts for kids
Woodhaven Lakes is a special private camping resort located in Sublette, Illinois, in the United States. It's like a big, fun neighborhood where people own their own campsites! In 2021, Woodhaven Lakes celebrated its 50th birthday, marking half a century of outdoor adventures.
This resort was started in 1971. It's a gated community, meaning only members and their guests can enter. Woodhaven Lakes covers a huge area of about 1,756 acres (which is about 7.1 square kilometers) filled with woodlands. It also has seven lakes that were made by people, and more than 15 miles (about 24 kilometers) of hiking trails for exploring.

The 2015 Tornado Event
On June 22, 2015, a strong EF-2 tornado touched down near Sublette, Illinois. This tornado caused damage to about 700 acres (2.8 square kilometers) of the Woodhaven Lakes campground. Five people were hurt, and many campers were badly damaged. Thousands of trees were also pulled out of the ground by the strong winds. Five days later, on June 27, campers were allowed to return to the resort to see the damage and begin cleaning up.
