Worcester, Missouri facts for kids
Worcester is a small, unincorporated community located in Audrain County, in the state of Missouri, USA. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.
The Story of Worcester's Past
Worcester started to grow as a community a long time ago. In 1877, a post office was opened there. A post office was very important back then because it was how people sent and received letters, and it often became a central meeting spot for the community. This post office served the people of Worcester for many years, finally closing its doors in 1907.
The community got its name from a much larger city called Worcester, Massachusetts. Many of the first families who settled in this area of Missouri came from Worcester, Massachusetts, and they wanted to remember their original home.
