Discovering the Museum's Past
How the Museum Started
The museum began a long time ago in 1833. It was started by a group called the Worcestershire Natural History Society. They wanted to share interesting things about nature.
Moving to a New Home
At first, the museum was on Angel Street. But it needed more space! So, in 1836, it moved to a bigger building on Foregate Street.
The Victoria Institute Era
Since 1896, the museum has been in the Victoria Institute. This special building was made for many things. It had a public library, the museum, and a School of Art and Science.
A New Collection Joins
In 1970, the Worcestershire Regiment Museum moved its collection. It came from Norton Barracks to the Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum. This added many items about soldiers.
A Big Gift for the Museum
In 2021, the Art Gallery & Museum received a very generous gift. Someone donated £300,000 to help the museum. This money helps them keep doing great things.
