The World's Largest Disco is a super fun party that happens every year in Buffalo, New York. It takes place at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center right after Thanksgiving. This event celebrates the disco music and style from the 1970s. You can see live bands from that time and dancers wearing cool 70s clothes! People also love it for being a great place to "people watch" – seeing all the different outfits and dance moves.

The History of the Disco Party

The World's Largest Disco started as an annual event in 1994. But its name comes from a huge disco party held in Buffalo way back in 1979. Famous singers like The Trammps and Gloria Gaynor performed there.

A World Record Disco

That 1979 party was so big that it made it into the Guinness World Records! It was officially the largest disco in history, with over 13,000 people dancing.

Why Fewer People Now?

Today, about 7,000 people attend the World's Largest Disco. This is not because it's less popular! It's because the event has to limit the number of tickets sold. In 1997, over 13,000 fans showed up again, which was too many for the convention center. So, they decided to cap ticket sales at 7,000 to keep everyone safe and comfortable. Tickets usually sell out super fast, often within minutes, when they go on sale in early August.

Disco During the Pandemic

In 2020, the in-person party couldn't happen. This was because of rules about how many people could gather during the COVID-19 pandemic in New York (state). But fans still got to celebrate! A local radio station, WTSS, played disco music instead of its usual Christmas music. Plus, the World's Largest Disco website streamed videos from past events. The in-person party returned in 2021, with a slightly smaller capacity of 6,500 people.

Helping Kids Through Disco

The World's Largest Disco is more than just a party. It's also a charity event! It raises money for a special place called Camp Good Days and Special Times. This camp helps children who are battling cancer. So, by dancing and having fun, people at the disco are also helping kids.
