Xavier Tondo Volpini was a talented Spanish professional road racing cyclist. He was born on November 5, 1978, in Valls, Spain. Sadly, he passed away on May 23, 2011, in Monachil, Spain. Xavier was especially good at climbing mountains during bike races.

A Sad Accident

Xavier Tondo died in a very sad accident. It happened when he was getting his bicycle ready for a training ride. He was caught between his garage door and his car. His teammate, Beñat Intxausti, was with him at that time.

To remember Xavier Tondo, a special bike event is held every year. It is called the 100%Tondo sportive. This event starts in Sant Joan les Fonts and finishes in Vallter 2000.

Helping the Police

In February 2011, news came out that a professional cyclist had helped the police. This cyclist gave them important information about suspicious activities in the sport. Later, it was shared that Xavier Tondo was that cyclist.

According to a Spanish newspaper, Tondo received an email in December 2010. This email offered different products that were not allowed in sports. Xavier Tondo bravely gave this email to the police. His actions helped the authorities investigate these unfair practices.
