Xosha Kai Roquemore (pronounced ZOH-shə ROHK-mor; born December 11, 1984) is an American actress. She is well-known for her roles as Jo Ann in the movie Precious and as Tamra in the TV show The Mindy Project.
Early life and education
Xosha Roquemore was born in 1984 in Los Angeles, a big city in California. Her name comes from the Xhosa people of South Africa. She started acting when she was in ninth grade, joining a group called The Amazing Grace Conservatory. After finishing high school, she moved to New York City. There, she studied acting and graduated from the Tisch program at New York University.
Career
Xosha Roquemore got her first big movie role as Jo Ann in the film Precious. This movie helped her become more recognized. In 2013, she was chosen for a repeating role on a TV show called Kirstie. However, she soon got an even bigger opportunity.
After appearing in three episodes of The Mindy Project as a guest star, she became a regular cast member on the show. This meant she would be in many more episodes. Her role on Kirstie was then given to another actress because of her new main role on The Mindy Project.
