The YWCA-YMCA of Sweden (called Swedish: KFUK-KFUM Sverige in Swedish) is a large youth organization in Sweden. It is part of the global YMCA and YWCA movements. This group helps young people grow and learn through many different activities.
How the YWCA-YMCA Started
The YWCA-YMCA of Sweden was created in 1966. Before this, there were two separate groups in Sweden. One was the YMCA of Sweden, which started in 1884. The other was the YWCA of Sweden, which began in 1885. These two groups decided to join together to form one stronger organization.
What the Name Means Now
In 2011, the organization made a cool change to its name for promotions. They started using KFUM Sverige. The letter M used to stand for män (which means "men"). Now, it stands for människor, which means "people." This change shows that the organization welcomes everyone, not just men.
Members and Activities
The YWCA-YMCA of Sweden has many members. About 40,000 young people are part of this organization. They are spread across 140 local groups all over Sweden. These groups offer lots of fun things to do. Many local YWCA-YMCA groups in Sweden have been very successful in sports. They also focus on things like music and bringing different Christian groups together.
