What is YWCA-YMCA?
The YWCA and YMCA are international organizations. They focus on helping young people develop in many ways. This includes through sports, music, and other fun activities. They also encourage people to work together, no matter their background.
How the Swedish Branch Started
The YWCA-YMCA of Sweden was formed in 1966. This happened when the separate Swedish YMCA and YWCA groups joined together. The YMCA of Sweden started in 1884, and the YWCA of Sweden began in 1885.
A Change for Everyone
In 2011, the organization made an important change. They decided to use the name KFUM Sverige more often. In Swedish, the 'M' used to stand for män, meaning "men." Now, the 'M' stands for människor, which means "people." This change shows that the organization welcomes everyone.
Members and Activities
The YWCA-YMCA of Sweden is a large group. It has about 40,000 members across 140 local clubs. These clubs offer many different activities.
Success in Sports
Many local YWCA-YMCA clubs in Sweden have done very well in sports. They help young athletes train and compete. This shows how the organization supports healthy and active lifestyles.
