Yaak is a small community in Lincoln County, Montana, United States. It's not officially a town, but a "census-designated place." This means it's a special area the government counts for population.
Yaak is located right next to the Yaak River. It is also inside the huge Kootenai National Forest. In 2020, about 338 people lived there.
The name Yaak is quite unique! It comes from the Yaak River itself. Local stories say that "A’ak" is a word from the Kootenai people. It means "Arrow." The Kootenai River is shaped like a drawn bow. So, the Yaak River, which flows into it, is like the arrow. People started settling here after a special law was passed in 1906.
