Yael Cohen Paran (Hebrew: יעל כהן-פארן; born October 12, 1973) is an Israeli environmentalist and politician. An environmentalist is someone who works to protect nature and the planet. A politician helps make decisions for a country. She is a leader of the Green Movement, which focuses on environmental issues. She was also a member of the Knesset, which is like Israel's parliament, from 2015 to 2019.

Her Early Life and Studies

Yael Cohen Paran served in the Israel Defense Forces as an intelligence officer. After her service, she studied physics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Later, she earned a master's degree in public policy from Tel Aviv University.

Working for the Environment

In 2007, Yael Cohen Paran started the Israel Energy Forum. She became its main leader. This group works on energy issues in Israel. She also represented Israel at important international meetings about climate change in 2002, 2007, and 2009. These meetings brought together leaders from around the world to talk about protecting our planet.

Her Time in Politics

Yael Cohen Paran joined the Green Movement, a political group focused on environmental protection. In July 2013, she became one of the co-leaders of the Green Movement.

Before the 2015 elections in Israel, she was placed on the list for the Zionist Union political group. Even though her group did not win enough seats for her to enter the Knesset right away, she became a member of the Knesset on November 25, 2015. This happened because another member, Danny Atar, left to lead the Jewish National Fund.

She served in the Knesset until 2019. Before the April 2019 elections, she was on the list for the Israeli Labor Party. However, the Labor Party did not win enough seats, so she lost her position in the Knesset.
