Rudolof Yanto Basna (born on June 12, 1995) is an Indonesian professional footballer. He plays as a centre-back for the Liga 2 club Persewar Waropen.
Football Journey
Starting Out
Yanto Basna began his football journey when he was 15 years old. In 2011, at age 17, he joined the training program at Deportivo Indonesia.
Later, in 2013, Basna became part of the Sriwijaya U21 team. This was an important step in his early career.
Playing for Mitra Kukar
In 2015, Basna signed with Mitra Kukar. He helped his team win the General Sudirman Cup in 2015. He was also named the best player of that tournament, which was a big achievement.
Time with Persib Bandung
After his great performance with Mitra Kukar, Basna joined Persib Bandung in 2016. However, he did not play as well there. This was because he often played as a right-back, but his best position is a central defender.
Persib wanted to keep him for the 2017 season. But Basna's agent asked for a much higher contract. So, Persib decided not to renew his contract.
Returning to Sriwijaya
Basna went back to Sriwijaya for the Liga 1 2017 season. He played in 24 games and scored one goal. His team finished 11th in the league that year.
Moving to Thailand
In early 2018, Basna decided to move to Thailand. Many big clubs in Indonesia and Malaysia wanted him. They offered him great contracts. But he chose Thailand.
At first, he faced some challenges because the club an agent promised him did not exist. He then found a local Thai agent who helped him. Khon Kaen wanted him, and after some trials, he signed a contract.
Playing for Khon Kaen
In 2018, Basna joined Thai League 2 club Khon Kaen. He played in 27 games and scored 1 goal. He helped his team finish 4th in the league. Because of his strong play, Khon Kaen fans called him "The wall of Khon Kaen."
Joining Sukhothai
In 2019, Basna signed with Thai League 1 club, Sukhothai. He played 11 games and scored 2 goals. His team finished 12th in the league.
Time with PT Prachuap
On January 5, 2020, Basna officially became a player for PT Prachuap. Two days later, he played his first game and scored his first goal for the club. This helped his team win 1–0 against Port.
On March 17, 2021, Basna scored his first league goal for PT Prachuap. He scored with a right-foot volley in a 1–0 win against Muangthong United. He played 19 games and scored 1 goal, helping his team finish 10th. He missed many games due to an injury. On June 2, 2021, he signed a new contract with the club. On January 5, 2022, Basna left PT Prachuap as his contract ended.
Playing for Bhayangkara
On April 21, 2022, it was confirmed that Basna signed a two-year contract with Bhayangkara.
Back to PT Prachuap
On January 9, 2024, Basna officially returned to the Thai club, PT Prachuap.
International Games
In 2014, Basna played for the Indonesia U-19 team in the 2014 AFC U-19 Championship.
On September 6, 2016, Basna played his first game for the senior team. They won 3–0 against Malaysia. Basna was part of the team that reached the 2016 AFF Championship final in 2016.
He did not play for the national team much from 2017 to 2018. But he returned to the team after being chosen by coach Simon McMenemy for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification.
Basna played his first match since 2016 in the World Cup qualifier against Thailand. His team lost 3–0 at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. On November 19, 2019, Basna was the team captain for the first time against Malaysia. Indonesia lost 2–0. The coach said that the players were feeling down. Basna was the only player willing to be the captain.
About Yanto Basna
Basna's parents are Ottys Basna Lestusen and Jekelina Yumamme. He has one older sister, one younger sister, and two younger brothers. One of his brothers, Elisa Basna, is also a football player.
Basna graduated from Ragunan High School. He then studied at Yogyakarta State University (UNY), focusing on sports education.
Sadly, Basna's father, Ottys Basna, passed away before a match between Sriwijaya and Mitra Kukar.
Basna used the prize money he won as the best player in the 2015 General Sudirman Cup to help others. He donated some money to Alfin Tuasalamony for his broken leg treatment. He also gave some to his church, shared with friends, and gave the rest to his family.
