Yasuo Takamori (高森 泰男, Takamori Yasuo) was a Japanese football player and manager. He was born on March 3, 1934, and passed away in 2016. His former name was Yasuo Kageyama. Takamori played as a defender for the Japan national team. He also managed a club team.
Playing Career: Club Football
Yasuo Takamori was born in Okayama Prefecture, Japan. After finishing his studies at Rikkyo University, he joined a football club called Nippon Kokan in 1956. He played for this club for many years.
In 1967, his team, Nippon Kokan, was promoted to the Japan Soccer League. This was a big achievement for the club. Takamori played 28 games in this top league. He stopped playing football professionally in 1968.
Playing Career: National Team
Takamori started playing for the Japan national team very early. His first game was on January 2, 1955. At that time, he was still a student at Rikkyo University. His first match was against the team from Burma.
He was chosen to represent Japan in the 1956 Summer Olympics. These Olympic Games were held in Melbourne, Australia. He also played for Japan in two different Asian Games tournaments. These were the 1958 Asian Games and the 1962 Asian Games. In total, he played 30 games for Japan's national team until 1963.
Coaching Career
While still playing for Nippon Kokan, Yasuo Takamori also took on a coaching role. In 1962, he became a "playing manager." This means he was both a player and the coach at the same time.
As a manager, he helped his club achieve great success. In the 1966 season, he led Nippon Kokan to be promoted to the Japan Soccer League. This was the top football league in Japan. However, he decided to step down as manager at the end of the 1966 season. So, he did not manage the team in the top league.
