Kids Encyclopedia Facts

A yearbook is a special book that shows all the people and important events at a school during one school year. It's usually made for high school or college students. Think of it like a memory book for your school year!

Making a Yearbook: How It's Done

Yearbooks are often created by a group of students. This group is called a committee. Teachers or staff members might help guide them, but the students do most of the work.

The committee usually has one or more editors. These editors are in charge of gathering all the information. They collect photos, stories, and names of students and staff. They also decide how the book will look. This includes where everything goes on each page.

Getting Your Yearbook: When and Why

Most of the time, yearbooks are given out at the end of the school year. This lets students get their books and have friends sign them. It's fun to get personal messages from classmates!

In some places, like the US, if yearbooks are given out early, schools might add a small extra part later. This extra part can have photos from spring sports or big events. Things like the prom or graduation might be included.

Some schools give out yearbooks at different times. This could be in July, or during special events like Homecoming in October. Giving them out later allows them to include events from the very end of the school year. Sometimes, yearbooks are even mailed to the homes of students who have graduated.
