Yesler Creek is a small stream in Seattle, Washington. It begins in the Bryant and Wedgwood neighborhoods. The creek then flows south, eventually reaching Union Bay. Union Bay is part of Lake Washington.

Some parts of Yesler Creek flow above ground. You can see it between 39th and 40th Avenue NE. It also flows through Burke Gilman Park. Other parts of the creek flow underground. For example, it runs beneath Seattle Children's Hospital.

Helping Yesler Creek

People are working to make Yesler Creek healthier. This effort is called "restoration." It means bringing the stream back to a more natural state.

Groups like the Green Seattle Partnership help with this work. Students from the University of Washington also join in. They are part of the Restoration Ecology Network (UW-REN).

These groups hold "work parties." During these events, volunteers spread mulch around the stream. They also remove plants that don't belong there. These are called "invasive plants." They plant native plants instead. Native plants are those that naturally grow in the area. This helps the creek and its surroundings stay healthy.
