Ynyslwyd Chapel, Aberdare facts for kids
Ynyslwyd Chapel was a special church building in Aberdare, Wales. It was a Baptist chapel, which is a type of Christian church. You could find it in Sunny Bank Place, right between the towns of Aberaman and Aberdare. This chapel started as a branch of another church called Calfaria Chapel in Aberdare.
The Beginning of Ynyslwyd Chapel
Ynyslwyd Chapel officially began in 1858. It started as a Sunday school, a place where people learned about their faith. Before the chapel was built, meetings were held in a large room at the Albion Inn. This inn was located on Cardiff Road in Aberaman.
The chapel building itself was constructed in 1862. A builder named David Morgan from Treorchy built it. The chapel got its name, Ynyslwyd, from the land it was built on. The first leader of the chapel was a minister named Thomas Davies.
Later Years and Closure
In 1935, a new minister named T.E. Thomas came to Ynyslwyd. He had previously served at Nazareth Chapel in Blaenllechau. Interestingly, Ynyslwyd Chapel had helped to establish Nazareth Chapel many years before.
Ynyslwyd Chapel served its community for many years. However, it eventually closed its doors in 1996. The building was then taken down, or demolished, in 1998.
