Yoash "Matti" Tzidon (Hebrew: יואש צידון) was an important Israeli figure. He was born on November 28, 1926, and passed away on July 8, 2015. He was a brave Air Force commander and later became a politician in Israel.

Yoash Tzidon's Early Life and Education
Yoash Tzidon was born in 1926 in a place called Focşani, which is in Romania. His original name was Yoash Chatto.
Moving to Palestine
When he was 15 years old, in 1941, he moved to Mandatory Palestine. This move is called "aliyah" for Jewish people who move to Israel.
His Studies
After moving, he studied at the Hebrew Navy school. This school was part of the Technion in Israel. Later, he went to a special school in France. There, he learned about aerial warfare, which is fighting in the air.
Serving His Country
Yoash Tzidon spent many years serving his country in different important roles.
Joining the Palmach
From 1944 to 1948, he was part of the Palmach. This was a special group that helped Jewish people. He helped Jewish people move to Palestine from Egypt and Cyprus. These moves were sometimes called "illegal immigration" because they went against the rules set by the British at the time. He also took part in actions against British ships in Cyprus.
Role in the 1948 War
During the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, Yoash Tzidon was a commander. He helped lead groups of vehicles, called convoys, to Jerusalem.
Becoming an Air Force Pilot
Later, he became a combat pilot in the Israeli Air Force. He flew planes in battles. He then became a test pilot, which means he flew new planes to make sure they worked well. He also trained other pilots and led a squadron of planes. He even became a deputy commander of an Air Force base.
Leadership in the Air Force
Before he left the military in 1966, he became the head of Weapons Systems and Planning for the Air Force. This meant he helped decide what weapons the Air Force would use and how they would plan their missions.

After his military career, Yoash Tzidon became involved in politics.
Joining Political Groups
He joined a group called the Movement for Greater Israel. Later, he joined the Tzomet political party.
Serving in the Knesset
In 1988, he was elected to the Knesset. The Knesset is like the parliament or main law-making body of Israel. He was elected as a member of the Tzomet party.
Changing Election Rules
While in the Knesset, he helped create a new law. This law changed how the Prime Minister was elected. It led to people voting directly for the Prime Minister. He served in the Knesset until the elections in 1992, when he lost his seat.
