Yobe is a state located in the northeastern part of Nigeria. It was created on August 27, 1991, and its capital city is Damaturu. Yobe is sometimes called the "Pride of the Sahel" because it is found in the Sahel region. The Sahel is a dry area just south of the Sahara Desert.

Where is Yobe State?
Yobe State is in the northern part of Nigeria. It shares borders with other Nigerian states and also with the country of Niger to the north. The state covers a large area of about 45,502 square kilometers. This makes it the 6th largest state in Nigeria by land size.
The Sahel Region
The Sahel is a special area between the desert and greener lands. It has a hot and dry climate for most of the year. This climate affects the types of plants and animals that can live there. People in Yobe have adapted to these conditions over many years.
People and Population
In 2006, about 2.3 million people lived in Yobe State. By 2011, this number grew to around 2.7 million. This makes Yobe one of the less populated states in Nigeria. The people of Yobe are known for their strong cultural traditions.
