Yoshiaki Ota (太田 吉彰, Ōta Yoshiaki, born 11 June 1983) is a Japanese former professional footballer. He played as a midfielder, which means he helped both defense and attack on the field. His older brother, Keisuke Ota, was also a football player.

Playing for Clubs

Yoshiaki Ota was born in Hamamatsu, Japan, on June 11, 1983. He started his football journey with the youth team of Júbilo Iwata in 2002. This club plays in the J1 League, which is Japan's top football league.

Early Years at Júbilo Iwata

By 2005, Yoshiaki became a regular player for Júbilo Iwata. He was known for playing on the right side of the midfield. However, after 2008, he started getting fewer chances to play. This was partly because a new player, Yuichi Komano, joined the team.

In July 2009, Yoshiaki left Júbilo Iwata. He hoped to move to a football club in Europe. But his plans didn't work out, and he didn't join any team for about six months.

Time with Vegalta Sendai

In 2010, Yoshiaki joined Vegalta Sendai. In his first year, he didn't play many matches. But in 2011, he played more often, sometimes even as a forward.

The year 2012 was a great one for him and Vegalta Sendai. Yoshiaki returned to his usual position as a right-side midfielder. The team finished in second place in the J1 League, which was their best result ever! Yoshiaki played in all 34 matches for three years in a row, from 2012 to 2014.

Return to Júbilo Iwata

In 2015, Yoshiaki Ota went back to his first club, Júbilo Iwata. This was six years after he had left. Júbilo Iwata had been moved down to the J2 League (the second division) in 2014.

Yoshiaki played many games and helped Júbilo Iwata get promoted back to the J1 League at the end of the 2015 season. However, from 2017 onwards, he started playing less often.

Playing for Japan

In 2007, Yoshiaki Ota was chosen to be part of the Japan national football team. He was selected for the 2007 AFC Asian Cup, a big tournament for Asian countries. Even though he didn't play in any matches during the tournament, Japan finished in fourth place.
