Starting with Urawa Reds
After finishing high school, Yoshinori Matsuda joined his hometown club, Urawa Reds, in 1993. This team plays in Japan's top football league, the J1 League. Even though he was part of the team for two seasons, he did not get to play in any official matches.
Playing for Sagan Tosu
In 1995, Matsuda moved to a different team called Tosu Futures. This club was playing in the Japan Football League at the time. He quickly became an important player for them. He played in many games as a defender, helping his team.
The club later changed its name to Sagan Tosu. Thanks to players like Matsuda, the team did very well. In 1999, Sagan Tosu was promoted to the J2 League, which is Japan's second-highest football division.
