Playing Career
Early Days and First Club
Yoshinori Taguchi was born in Saitama, Japan, on September 14, 1965. After finishing his studies at the University of Tsukuba, he joined a football club called All Nippon Airways in 1989. This club later became known as Yokohama Flügels.
He quickly became a key player for the team. He played as a center back right from his first season. However, in October 1991, he was suspended for seven months. This was due to an incident where he broke rules during a match.
Moving to New Teams
In 1993, Taguchi moved to another club, Sanfrecce Hiroshima. Unfortunately, he faced an injury before the season started. This injury made it hard for him to play regularly for the team.
The next year, in 1994, he joined his hometown club, Urawa Reds. Here, he once again became a regular player. But in September 1995, he was suspended again for four months. This suspension happened after an incident with a supporter following a game.
Later Career and Retirement
From 1997 onwards, Taguchi struggled with injuries. These injuries meant he could barely play in matches for two seasons. He made a return to the field on October 3, 1998. However, in that very match, he received a red card. This game turned out to be his last as a professional player. He decided to retire from football at the end of the 1998 season.
National Team Experience
In 1988, while still a student at the University of Tsukuba, Taguchi was chosen to play for the Japan national "B team". This team participated in the 1988 AFC Asian Cup. He played in three games during this competition. However, the Japan Football Association does not count these matches as official games for the main Japan national team. This is because it was a "B team" and not the "top team."
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Yoshinori Taguchi started a new chapter in his football journey. In 2001, he became a manager for a women's football club. This club was called Urawa Reinas, which later changed its name to Saitama Reinas.
Under his leadership, the club achieved great success. In 2004, his team won the championship in the L.League. They also finished in second place in the Empress's Cup that same year. Taguchi stepped down from his role as manager at the end of the 2004 season.
