Yoshinori Taguchi's Football Journey

Playing Career Highlights

Yoshinori Taguchi was born in Saitama, Japan, on September 14, 1965. He grew up loving football and played throughout his school years. After finishing his studies at University of Tsukuba, he began his professional football career.

Early Days and First Clubs

In 1989, Taguchi joined a team called All Nippon Airways, which later became Yokohama Flügels. He quickly became a key player, often playing as a center back. This position is important for defending the goal.

However, in October 1991, he faced a suspension for seven months due to an incident during a game. This meant he could not play for a long time.

Moving to New Teams

In 1993, Taguchi moved to a new team, Sanfrecce Hiroshima. Unfortunately, he got injured before the season even started. This injury made it hard for him to play regularly for his new club.

The next year, in 1994, he moved back to his hometown club, Urawa Reds. Here, he once again became a regular player on the team. But in September 1995, he faced another suspension after an incident involving a fan after a match.

Challenges and Retirement

From 1997 onwards, Taguchi struggled with injuries. These injuries made it very difficult for him to play in games for two seasons. He made a return to the field on October 3, 1998. However, in that very game, he received a red card. This match turned out to be his last one. He decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 1998 season.

Playing for Japan

Even while he was a student at University of Tsukuba in 1988, Yoshinori Taguchi was chosen to play for the Japan national "B team". This team played in the 1988 AFC Asian Cup. He played in three games during this competition.

It's important to know that the Japan Football Association does not count these games as official matches for the main Japan national team. This is because it was the "B team" and not the "top team" representing the country.

Becoming a Coach

After he stopped playing football, Taguchi decided to become a coach. In 2001, he became the manager for a women's football club called Urawa Reinas. This club later changed its name to Saitama Reinas.

Under his coaching, the team achieved great success in 2004. They won the championship in the L.League, which is a top women's football league. They also finished in second place in the Empress's Cup, another important competition. Taguchi left his coaching role at the end of the 2004 season.
