Yoshiro Moriyama (森山 佳郎, Moriyama Yoshiro, born November 9, 1967) is a Japanese professional football manager and former player. He played as a defender. Currently, he is the manager of the J2 League club Vegalta Sendai. He also works as an assistant coach for the Malaysia U-23 team. Moriyama has managed several youth teams for the Japan national football team. He also led the Sanfrecce Hiroshima U18 team.

Playing Career Highlights

Yoshiro Moriyama was born in Kumamoto, Japan, on November 9, 1967. After finishing his studies at the University of Tsukuba, he began his professional football journey.

Club Teams and Achievements

Moriyama joined Mazda in 1991. This club later became known as Sanfrecce Hiroshima. With Sanfrecce Hiroshima, he helped the team finish second in the J1 League. They were also runners-up in the 1995 Emperor's Cup.

He then played for other well-known Japanese clubs. In 1996, he moved to Yokohama Flügels. After that, he played for Júbilo Iwata in 1998. His last club was Bellmare Hiratsuka in 1999. Moriyama retired from playing football at the end of the 1999 season. Throughout his club career, he played 168 games and scored 5 goals.

Playing for Japan's National Team

Yoshiro Moriyama also represented his country. On July 8, 1994, he played his first game for the Japan national team against Ghana. He was chosen to play for Japan in the 1994 Asian Games. He played in all the matches during that tournament. In total, he played 7 games for Japan in 1994.

Managerial Career

After his playing career, Moriyama became a football manager. He spent many years coaching youth teams. From 2002 to 2011, he managed the Sanfrecce Hiroshima U18 team. He then coached the Japan U17 team from 2012 to 2023.

In November 2023, Moriyama was named the manager of J2 League club Vegalta Sendai. He continues to lead this team. In 2025, he also took on the role of assistant coach for the Malaysia U-23 squad.
