Yoshiro Moriyama (森山 佳郎, Moriyama Yoshiro, born November 9, 1967) is a Japanese professional football manager and former player. He was born on November 9, 1967, in Kumamoto, Japan.

Moriyama played as a defender during his career. Today, he is the manager of the J2 League club Vegalta Sendai. He has also managed several youth teams for the Japan national football team, including the Sanfrecce Hiroshima U18 team.

Yoshiro Moriyama's Playing Days

Moriyama started his professional football journey after finishing his studies at the University of Tsukuba. In 1991, he joined a team called Mazda, which later became known as Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

Playing for Sanfrecce Hiroshima

During his time with Sanfrecce Hiroshima, Moriyama helped his team achieve great things. In 1994, they finished in 2nd place in the J1 League, which is Japan's top football league. The team also reached the final of the 1995 Emperor's Cup in 1995, finishing as runners-up. He played 97 games and scored 4 goals for them.

Moving to Other Clubs

After playing for Sanfrecce Hiroshima, Moriyama moved to other clubs. He joined Yokohama Flügels in 1996, where he played 53 games. Later, he played for Júbilo Iwata in 1998 and Bellmare Hiratsuka in 1999. He played 18 games for Bellmare Hiratsuka. Moriyama decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 1999 season. In total, he played 168 league games and scored 5 goals in his club career.

Playing for Japan's National Team

Yoshiro Moriyama also had the honor of playing for the Japan national team.

International Debut and Asian Games

His first game for Japan was on July 8, 1994, against Ghana. In the same year, he was chosen to represent Japan at the 1994 Asian Games. He played in every match during that tournament. Overall, Moriyama played 7 games for Japan in 1994.

After retiring as a player, Moriyama decided to become a football manager, sharing his knowledge and experience with new generations of players.

Coaching Youth Teams

From 2002 to 2011, he coached the U18 (Under 18) team for Sanfrecce Hiroshima, the club where he spent many years as a player. He then became the manager of the Japan U17 national team, coaching them from 2012 to 2023. This role involved helping young Japanese players develop their skills and prepare for professional football.

Managing Vegalta Sendai

In November 2023, Yoshiro Moriyama was appointed as the manager of Vegalta Sendai, a club in the J2 League. This is a new and exciting chapter in his career as a football manager.
