Yoshiyuki Kato (加藤 善之, Katō Yoshiyuki, born July 27, 1964) is a former Japanese football player and manager. He was born in Tokyo, Japan. Kato played as a defender or midfielder during his career.

Playing Career Highlights

Yoshiyuki Kato started his football journey in Tokyo. After finishing high school, he joined a team called Yomiuri in 1983. This team later became known as Verdy Kawasaki.

Kato played many games for Verdy Kawasaki in the late 1980s. However, it was hard for him to become a regular starter. This was because the team had many players who were also on the Japan national team.

In 1995, he moved to another club called Fukuoka Blux. This team was part of the Japan Football League at the time. Kato played for one season with Fukuoka Blux. He then decided to retire from playing football at the end of 1995.

Coaching and Management Roles

After his playing career, Yoshiyuki Kato moved into management. In 2009, he became the general manager for Matsumoto Yamaga FC. This club was playing in the Regional Leagues.

Under his management, Matsumoto Yamaga FC did very well. They were promoted to the Japan Football League at the end of the 2009 season. This was a big step up for the club.

In June 2011, the team's manager, Hideo Yoshizawa, left his position. Yoshiyuki Kato then stepped in to become the new manager. He led the team to a great finish in 2011, placing 4th in the league. This high finish meant the club could be promoted to the J2 League.

However, there was a rule that J.League managers needed a special license. Yoshiyuki Kato did not have this license at the time. Because of this, he had to resign as manager. He then went back to his role as general manager for the club.
