In 1997, he returned to Avispa Fukuoka. But again, he didn't play many games. He then moved to Fukushima FC, a club in the Japan Football League. He played in many matches for Fukushima FC. Unfortunately, this club also closed down at the end of 1997.
In 1998, Takemoto joined Mito HollyHock, another team in the Japan Football League. The next year, in 1999, he moved to Sagan Tosu. This club had just been promoted to the J2 League. In 1999, he was a regular player for Sagan Tosu. He scored 16 goals, becoming the top scorer for his club that season!
The year 2000 was tough for him. He couldn't play any matches because of injuries. But he bounced back in 2001, playing in many games again. Yoshiyuki Takemoto continued to play for Sagan Tosu until the end of the 2002 season, when he retired from professional football.
