Yousef Wali facts for kids
Yousef Waly (Arabic: يوسف والي) was an important Egyptian politician born on 2 April 1930. He worked as the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation from 1982 to 2004. This means he was in charge of farming and land use for a long time in Egypt. He passed away on 5 September 2020, when he was 89 years old. Helping Egypt's Farms Grow
As the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Yousef Waly worked hard to get money for new ideas and studies in farming. This helped Egypt grow much more food than before. Farmers were able to produce record amounts of important crops like corn (maize), wheat, rice, and cotton. His work made the land more productive, meaning it could grow more food to feed people.
Changes in Government Leadership
In 2004, there was a change in the Egyptian government. A new Prime Minister named Ahmed Nazif formed his team on 9 July 2004. At this time, Yousef Waly was replaced as Minister of Agriculture by Ahmed El-Leithy. The new minister brought in strict rules for the types of bug sprays (pesticides) that could be brought into the country. He also saw how growing crops naturally, without many chemicals (organically grown crops), could be good for the economy.
