Ahmed Nazif (born 8 July 1952) is an Egyptian politician. He was the Prime Minister of Egypt from 2004 to 2011. He became prime minister on 14 July 2004. His government stepped down on 29 January 2011 during a time of big public protests in Egypt. For a short time in 2010, he also acted as the President of Egypt when President Hosni Mubarak was having surgery.

Life and Work
Ahmed Nazif was born in the city of Alexandria, Egypt. He was chosen by President Hosni Mubarak to lead the government on 9 July 2004. He and his new team of ministers officially started their work on 14 July 2004. The parliament quickly supported his new government.
Egypt's Youngest Prime Minister
Ahmed Nazif was one of the youngest prime ministers in Egypt's modern history. His government was known for having many skilled experts and people with new ideas. Before becoming prime minister, Nazif was the Minister for Communications and Information Technology. He was also a professor at Cairo University in the engineering department.

His time as prime minister ended in January 2011. After a period of public protests, President Mubarak asked Nazif and his government to resign. Ahmed Shafik took over as prime minister. Later, in 2016, a high court in Egypt cleared Nazif of all charges related to his time in office.
Boosting Technology in Egypt
Before becoming prime minister, Ahmed Nazif was the first-ever Minister for Communications and Information Technology. In this role, he did many important things for Egypt's technology.
- He helped start a plan for free internet access across Egypt.
- He made it easier for people to get computers at low prices. This was done through the Egyptian Telecommunications Company.
- He helped create the first computer engineering department at Cairo University.
- He led the project to computerize the national identity card system.
- He also helped set up the Smart Village, which is a large technology park.
His work helped Egypt grow in the world of information technology. He even received Egypt's highest medal for science and art.
Education and Family
Ahmed Nazif has a strong educational background.
- He finished high school at El Nasr Boys' School in Alexandria in 1969.
- He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Communication and Electronics from the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University.
- He then got his Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University in 1976.
- He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering at McGill University in Canada in 1983.
Ahmed Nazif lives with his two sons. His father was a wealthy sailor who owned a shipping company. His grandfather was a high-ranking official in the Ministry of Health.
