Ahmed Nazif (Arabic: أحمد نظيف, romanized: Aḥmad Naẓīf; born on July 8, 1952) was the prime minister of Egypt from July 14, 2004, to January 29, 2011. His government was asked to step down by President Hosni Mubarak because of a big public protest. This protest led to the Egyptian Revolution of 2011. Ahmed Nazif also served as acting president of Egypt for a short time in 2010. This happened when President Mubarak was having surgery in Germany.

Early Life and Career

Ahmed Nazif was born in Alexandria, Egypt. He became the Prime Minister of Egypt on July 14, 2004. President Hosni Mubarak asked him to form a new government. His appointment was approved by the parliament, which showed they trusted him.

Nazif was one of the youngest prime ministers in modern Egyptian history. His government was known for having many experts and people with new ideas for the economy. Before becoming prime minister, he was the Minister for Communications and Information Technology. He also worked as a professor at Cairo University.

Changes in Government

Ahmed Nazif took over from the previous prime minister, Atef Obeid. There was a lot of pressure for the government to make changes.

After the Egyptian Revolution started, President Mubarak announced that Nazif and his government would resign. This ended one of the longest-serving governments in modern Egypt. Ahmed Shafik took over as prime minister on January 29, 2011.

Ahmed Nazif later faced legal questions about his time in office. However, in May 2016, the highest court in Egypt cleared him of all charges.

Achievements in Technology

As the first Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Ahmed Nazif helped bring many new things to Egypt. He started a plan for free internet access across the country. He also made it easier for people to buy affordable computers. This was done through the Egyptian Telecommunications Company.

Nazif also helped create the first computer engineering department at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University. He played a big part in making the National Identity Card project digital. He also helped set up the Smart Village, which is a large technology park. For his work, he received Egypt's First Degree Medal of Sciences and Art.
