Yuri Rafailovich Yakovich was born on November 30, 1962. He is a talented chess player from Russia. In 1990, he earned the special title of Grandmaster from FIDE, which is the world chess organization.
Yuri Yakovich has been a key part of Russian chess teams. He helped the Russian team win a silver medal at the 1997 European Team Chess Championship. Later, in 2019, he was on the Russian team that won a gold medal at the European Senior Team Championship for players aged 50 and older.
Chess Achievements
Yuri Yakovich has done very well in many chess tournaments. In 2003, he shared first place with two other players at the Fakel Jamala tournament in Noyabrsk.
He also had a great result in 2007. He tied for first place with five other strong players at the 16th Monarch Assurance Isle of Man International tournament. These results show he is a very skilled chess player.
Author and Coach
Beyond playing, Yuri Yakovich has also shared his chess knowledge. He has written two books about chess strategies. His book Play the 4 f3 Nimzo-Indian was published in 2004. He also wrote Sicilian Attacks, which came out in 2010.
In 2021, the German Chess Federation chose Yuri Yakovich to be the coach for their women's national chess team. He guided the team during the 44th Chess Olympiad, a big international chess event, which took place in Chennai, India.
